Entry from: Rurrenabaque, Bolivia Entry Title: "Rain, mud and backflops in the jungle" Entry: "We were pleased to learn that our journey into the jungle from Rurrenbaque was to consist of a 3 hour boat ride up the river Beni rather than another long ride in a 4WD! However, what we didn't count on was more "unseasonal" rain bucketing down along the way! However, so far our travels in South America have convinced us that rain is never unseasonal when you visit a rainforest! Thankfully we had splashed out on the expensive "waterproof" ponchos (rather than the thin plastic variety) and they came in handy as the boat had a quite limited roof (more for shade rather than protection from the rain we were told)! Heavy overnight rain had caused the river to swell and at points the boat struggled to make headway up the river - the boatmen didn't seem too surprised by the lack of horsepower from the outboard and knew exactly when to hop off the side into the river and give the boat a push!! The scenery heading into the Amazon was beautiful - at times we went through jagged gorges with cliffs on both sides before we passed through the mountains and then the landscape flattened out.
